Approved ordinance bans plastic election posters in QC
It looks like the coming elections in Quezon City will be “clean and green” in a manner of speaking.
The Quezon City council has approved on third and final reading a measure banning the use of plastic materials for election posters and advertisements.
Under the approved ordinance principally authored by Councilor Dorothy Delarmente, violators face one year imprisonment or a P5,000 fine. Both penalties may be imposed on third-time offenders.
However, it prohibits the use of thin plastics and not PVC-type tarpaulin.
Unlike tarpaulins which can be reused, plastic materials usually end up in the trash, clogging waterways and street drains, Delarmente said.
“This ordinance is for the welfare of the environment and our constituents,” she added.
