Newly released Pasig inmate commits ‘suicide’

Was the pressure of living in the “outside world” too much that he felt taking his own life would be a better alternative?

A man who was just released from jail on drug charges last month was found dead on Tuesday in what the police believe was a case of suicide.

Authorities identified the victim as Ambro Rajamundo, a resident of Garden Royal Villas Subdivision in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.

He was found by a roving security guard at 6 a.m. on Tuesday in front of the holding cell at the Pasig City Hall of Justice, just behind city hall.

Rajamundo had hanged himself using an iron chain which he had tied to the steel bars of the holding cell which was empty at that time. A check also showed that his body bore no signs of external injury.

The police said they were able to identify the victim through the certificate of discharge they found in his pocket.

According to the certificate, Rajamundo was acquitted by the Pasig Regional Trial Court of the charge of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, specifically for selling illegal drugs.

He was released from the Pasig City Jail on Feb. 14 but at 4 a.m. yesterday, witnesses said they spotted him roaming around the deserted grounds of the city’s justice hall.

Around two hours later, a security guard found his body outside the holding cell, a temporary detention center familiar to Rajamundo since it is where suspects are kept whenever they attend a hearing for their case at the nearby hall of justice.

According to the police, they have yet to discover Rajamundo’s motive for taking his own life.
