MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declaring Homer Saquilayan as the duly elected mayor of Imus, Cavite in 2010.
Voting 8-7, the high court dismissed the petition filed by the seating Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi of the Liberal Party.
“The decision is immediately executory considering that there are only less than 5 months left in Saquilayan’s term of office,” the high court said through its public information office.
The high court has also lifted the temporary restraining order it earlier issued in favour of Maliksi.
The eight justices are Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, and Associate Justices Mariano Del Castillo, Roberto Abad, Martin Villarama Jr., Jose Perez, Estela Perlas-Bernabe and Marvic Leonen.
