THE CENTRAL Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) High School team and University of the Visayas (UV) started their campaigns in the under-19 division of the 2013 ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup/CYBL Season 6 in style after hurdling their opponents in the games held last Sunday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
The SHS-AdC-powered CVIRAA squad got past the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 48-40, while UV blasted the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 62-39.
The CVIRAA team is using the competition to prepare for the Palarong Pambansa and they needed every bit of experience to get past the gritty USJ-R team as the Jaguars got within four, 40-44, after trailing, 29-38, at the start of the fourth canto.
However, USJ-R deadened their own rally with a total of six missed freethrows in the last 1:10 of the game.
In the other game, UV broke the game wide open in the third canto behind the scoring of Ralph Dinolan and Leonard Santillan.
Dinolan eventually finished with 18 points while Santillan came up with 14 markers.
The ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup 2013 is the flagship tournament of Season 6 of the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL). The tournament is composed of 50 teams spread over four age groups: Under 10, 13, 16 and 19. Games in the Under 10, 13 and 16 divisions are now over./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
