One Cebu Expo opens Cebu anniversary rite
A SHOWCASE of Cebu’s finest in products, services and culture opened today’s commemoration of the province’s 442nd founding anniversary.
Today is a special nonworking holiday for Cebu province.
Enrison Benedicto, chairman of the One Cebu Expo, said the event will allow Cebuanos and visitors to “discover, learn, see, and taste” what Cebu is.
At least 370 exhibitors joined the event , which runs until Aug. 15, at the Cebu International Convention Center.
In a Mass officiated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, the prelate said the celebration and exhibits show how Cebuanos “truly treasure their rich history.”
He quoted Blessed John Paul II in saying that Cebuanos “should look at the past with gratitude” and to celebrate “the present with enthusiasm and look at the future with hope.”
“We are proud that we are Cebuanos. One Cebu … we invite people to be one … we shall work together,” Palma said.
He joined Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and other dignitaries in cutting the ribbon to open the expo.
The CICC’s upper floor is full of exhibits of home decor, furniture and fashion accessories.
In his speech, Sen. Franklin Drilon lauded Cebuanos for their unity as shown by Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama sitting together.
Former Tanzanian president Benjamin Mkapa said he was impressed with Cebu’s export products since it shows Cebu’s identity.
