MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila may expect generally “good weather” as it heads towards summer, the state weather bureau said Monday.

Although summer is not officially declared by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration just yet, it said warm days are up ahead due to easterlies caused by high pressure area.

The northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan,” continues to weaken but it may appear for a short while on Friday, Alvin Pura of Pagasa told INQUIRER.net.

However, the expected rains will be convective rains, where accumulated clouds in the morning turn to rainfall in the afternoon or evening. But Pura said it does not mean that it will be a wet summer season in the country.

The provinces of Aurora and Quezon, Bicol region and Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, Pagasa said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the east will prevail over the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas, it also said.
