The Petron Blaze Boosters did what they had to do early in the day then had their prayers answered when sister-team Barangay Ginebra chalked up a win later in the night.
It’s going to be Petron versus Talk ‘N Text in the 36th PBA Governors’ Cup Finals after the Boosters and the Kings posted separate wins at the close of the semifinal round last night at the Araneta Coliseum.
Despite a depleted line-up, Petron scored a blowout win against the mighty Talk ‘N Text, 98-83, in the first game before Ginebra sealed the Boosters’ trip to the finals with a 102-95 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the main game.
After Petron’s win over Talk ‘N Text, the Ginebra-Rain or Shine became a no-bearing game. The Kings’ hoped for the Boosters to lose for them to have a crack at the finals.
Ginebra’s win also booted the Alaska Aces out from the race for a finals berth.
Following yesterday’s games, Alaska, Petron and Ginebra all ended with 8-5 (win-loss) records.
It was, however, Petron who advanced to the semis with their +13 qoutient against Alaska’s +6. Ginebra was -19.
Had the Kings lost against the Painters, Alaska could have advanced to the finals due to their superior quotient over Petron.
The best-of-seven championship round will start on Sunday with the Boosters looking to stop Talk ‘N Text from completing a rare grand-slam feat.
