Sampan captures Masters crown in Camotes mtb tilt

RENATO Sampan dominated the Masters category in yesterday’s Eighth Camotes Island Mountain Bike Cross Country Challenge in San Francisco town, Camotes Island.

Sampan finished the 38-kilometer offroad mountain bike challenge in one hour, 41 minutes and three seconds edging Francisco Macayan who came in second place in 1:44.17 and Alberto Paraiso who rounded off the top three in 1:47.59.

In the 50-above Golden Boys division, Fernie Agapito emerged the fastest rider, crossing the finish line in 1:59.21 while Sixto Quiapo (2:07.16) and Felix Cagulada (2:36.37) took runner-up honors.

Johnny Sevillejo captured the top spot in the Beginners category clocking 1:27.15. He was followed by Roberto Pelayo (1:30.24) and  Reil Comendador (1:33.26) while Warren Vinan topped the Jun-Sen category in (1:19.00) followed by Roy Carbonera and his brother Randy Carbonera who grabbed the second and third spots in 1:19.24 and 1:19.25, respectively. Gino Basiro placed fourth in 1:44.51.

Joseph Bonhoc ruled the Camotes bikers division with the time of 1:54.08 while Marjun Vicariato placed second in 1:58.44 and Regie Sampan finished third in 1:58.52.

Meanwhile, Amon Espinosa ruled the Veterans 30-39 years old category with the time of 1:25.45 followed by Wilter Cabarrubias (1:33.40) and Junasis Alicaway (1:38.02).

The above-mentioned winners received cash prizes from the Camotes Offroad Bikers Association headed by its president, Leeford Galindo.

The race is held in line with the fiesta celebration of Camotes Island.
