5 Don Bosco teams cruise to finals

Five Don Bosco teams advanced to the championshp round after winning their respective semifinal matches in the 15th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field and Cebu City Sports Center.

Don Bosco grabbed a finals ticket in the Boys 17 category with a 6-0 thrashing of Cebu International School (CIS). It will face Ateneo-A for the title after the latter booted out Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI), 1-0.

In the Boys 14, Don Bosco-2 barged into the final round with a 2-0 blanking of Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy while the other finals ticket was clinched by Springdale-A via a 3-0 routing of Subangdaku.

In the Boys 12, Don Bosco-1 arranged a championship date against Giuseppe with a 5-0 annihilation of Bright Academy. Kyle Ronquillo found the back of the net twice while the rest of Don Bosco’s goals were scored by Sam Labor, Joshua Edillo and Vince Pacana.

Giuseppe, on the other hand, made an impressive grab for the other finals ticket with an 8-1 demolition of Ateneo de Cebu anchored by the four goals of Joshua Shield.

The rest of Giuseppe’s goals were chipped in by Jim Aquino, Harl Barbon, Kim Basiga and Ryan Catubay.

Don Bosco-1 also clinched a finals ticket in the Players 10 at the expense of Giuseppe, 3-1.

It will go up against Canduman for the title after the latter prevailed in a penalty shootout against Ateneo-de Cebu, 2-1. The regulation match ended at 3-all.

The remaining Don Bosco team which advanced to the championship round was its Players 8 team 3, which outsmarted Lahug-B, 5-3.

Bright Academy-A prevented an all Don Bosco finals in the category with a 2-0 blanking of Don Bosco-4.

The other team which notched a finals entry is University of San Carlos (USC) with a 9-0 routing of San Roque Football Club (SRFC) in the Girls 17. It will face Ateneo de Cebu, which squeaked past St. Theresa’s College, 2-1.

The Aboitiz football will resume today with the semifinals in the Men’s Open and 38 Above at the Cebu City Sports Center.

In the Men’s Open, ERCO will go up against Hiroshi FC while Crazy Horse will face Cebu Queen City United FC.

In the 38 Above, ERCO FC will vie for a final slot against SRFC while Hiroshi FC will face Queen City United.

Over at the Aboitiz Sports Field, the last two elimination games of the Under 23 will be held pitting University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) versus Philsca and University of San Jose Recoletos against USC.
