MCWD opens new well in Lapu-Lapu

SOME 450 households in the Lapu-Lapu City now enjoy potable water supply with the opening of a new well of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) in barangay Pajac.

The well, which was blessed recently, is part of the Mactan Bubble Project and the first of nine wells.

MCWD set aside P100 million for the project. Initially, it targeted to drill 15 shallow wells but after conducting a well inventory in the whole island of Mactan, the number was down to nine.

The well in Pajac started supplying water to barangays Pajac, Bankal, Marigondon and Maribago on May 31.

It produces 360 cubic meters of water a day.

The project was started in 2009. The other wells are ready but the laying of connecting pipes is delayed due to right-of-way issues. This is being handled by the legal department of MCWD.

MCWD Corporate Planning Division manager John Macabenta said the total water demand of the whole island including Cordova is pegged at 72,700 cubic meters a day.

MCWD’s supply is more than 21,000 cubic meters a day while the island’s actual consumption is 16,000 cubic meters.
