No evidence of new faultline across QC, Marikina Valley–Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines— The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ( Phivolcs) on Friday said there was no evidence to show that there was a new faultline that cuts through Quezon City and intersects with the one in Marikina Valley.

“There is no basis to show that these alleged faultline exists, ” Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.

Solidum said that in Metro Manila, there was soft ground and hard ground “ but which did not mean that there was a new faultline. ”

“We need to be careful with the evaluation of data,” he said.

Filipino geologist and University of Illinois at Chicago Professor Emeritus Dr. Kelvin Rodolfo has revealed that he stumbled upon what initially appeared to be a new faultline while observing land patterns in Metro Manila between 2003 and 2006.
