AROUND 150 women will rise up to the challenge of running 50 kilometers this Saturday during the All-Women’s Ultra Marathon starting at the Plaza Independencia in Cebu City and ending at the White Sands Beach Resort in Lapu-Lapu City.
Among those expected to join are known ultra runners such as Virginia Parajenog, Tessie Escasinas and Merlita Arias Dunkin, who is the champion of the first edition of this event.
The route brings runners to northern Cebu then to the hills of Busay and back to Mandaue City before proceeding to the Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge and the Cansaga Bridge. From there, runners will head straight to the finish line at the White Sands Beach Resort.
The race was first held last March 2012. Two more legs were held after that last year.
Since this will be a non-competitive race, bragging rights will be at stake in this running event as organizers have prepared medals for the finishers./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
