FEU ‘sprinter’ beats phone snatcher

/ 12:37 AM March 08, 2013

A sixteen-year-old snatcher was no match to a female member of the Far Eastern University running team who was able to recover her cell phone after chasing and subduing the suspect at the corner of Kalaw Street and United Nations Avenue in Manila Thursday morning.

The Manila Police District women’s desk said Josephine Quinones, 17, was in a passenger jeep bound for Quiapo when the suspect boarded the vehicle, grabbed the student’s cell phone and pushed her.

But before the suspect could run away, the victim quickly got off the jeepney and ran after the suspect till she caught up with him in front of a fast food outlet on Kalaw.

A security guard who saw the chase helped Quinones secure the suspect and later brought the minor to the MPD headquarters on UN Avenue.

An MPD report described Quinones as a sprinter in the FEU varsity squad and a first-year marketing student. Nancy C. Carvajal
