Following are quotes from the National Bureau of Investigation report on its probe of the Atimonan incident:
“The posture of Supt. Marantan as PNP officer, ‘dreaded and feared by hoodlums’ and as the protector of Ka Tita, may have sent strong and disturbing signals to Vic Siman. Supt. Marantan is closely associated with Ka Tita for several personal reasons. In fact he is fondly called ‘Bunso’ by Ka Tita and her live-in partner Ka Ogie, a retired police officer from the WPD.
“Several recorded incidents support this observation. In fact the killing of Nestor Pera Banog Jr., Alwin Magbujos Baldeo, David Mark Sanding Basa and Jose Sonny Bruel Mendoza last Nov. 12, 2012, in Calamba, Laguna, clearly manifested the counter action taken by Supt. Marantan against Vic Siman and his group under the so-called ‘Coplan Armado.’ The elimination or reduction of the forces of Vic Siman would benefit Supt. Marantan on two (2) fronts: First, the territorial landscape under the control of Ka Tita would increase including her collections; cabos/collectors of Vic Siman would transfer to Ka Tita; second, the operation that would eventually eliminate armed men and/or gun for hire personalities under the umbrella of Vic Siman would add feathers to the cap of Supt. Marantan as a no nonsense police officer out to eliminate notorious criminals in the province of Laguna.”–NBI probe report
