ALL IS SET for the 2nd Phoenix Run of the Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Cebu (SHS-HdC) Parents’ Association slated March 17 at the Ayala Center Cebu’s The Terraces.
Organizers said 2,200 runners have already enlisted for the race, which is held in cooperation with the SHS-HdC Student Council.
The runners so far who have enlisted are composed of regular local running competitors and students and family members of the SHS-HdC.
Hazel Ypil, the president of SHS-HdC Parents’ Association, said this fund-raising event aims to continue the school’s outreach programs this year.
“This running event started last year. It aims to fund the Parents’ Association’s outreach activities. We reached our goal last year and we were able to renovate the Physics Laboratory of our school. This year, we aim to raise more funds to continue our programs,” said Ypil.
The running event also serves as a culminating activity for the school, which is about to end its 2012-2013 school year.
Like last year, the race will once again be handled by veteran race director Joel Baring.
Registration can be done at the SHS-HdC campus along Juana Osmeña Street in barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City. A registration booth at the Active Zone of Ayala Center Cebu will also open this Friday. Registration fee is pegged at P350.
Distances offered in the race are one-kilometer, 3k, 5k and 10k. Each category will have winners in the open and student division. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
