Police probe P10-M burglary in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines—Burglars ransacked  the unattended Quezon City apartment of a commercial and residential complex administrator over the weekend and took some P10 million in  diamond jewelry, appliances, cash and dinnerware.

It was only on Monday afternoon that Maria Crisanta Isidoro, 42, administrative officer of the complex on Aurora Boulevard, Barangay Marilag, in Project 4, reported the weekend break-in to the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Investigators said that the thieves broke into the apartment some time between Friday night and Sunday morning and probably gained access to the apartment, which doubles as an office, through a window on the second floor.

According to Police Officer 3 Erickson Isidro, case investigator, the Isidoro family left their home locked up but unattended on March 1 to go out of town for the weekend. The burglary, he said, was discovered immediately after they returned from the trip at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Isidoro initially noticed that the doors on the ground and second floors were all open and she soon discovered that some of their appliances, particularly two flat-screen TVs and a pink electric fan, were missing.

A further inspection of her home showed missing diamond rings, necklaces and bracelets as well as diamond-studded wristwatches and two sets of antique dangling earrings. Isidoro also reported stolen a set of gold spoons and forks; an antique saucer set; and P120,000 in cash as well as 1,500 euros (approximately P79,000) and an undetermined amount of US dollars.

Theft and robbery section head Chief Insp. Allan Dela Cruz said that they were reviewing closed circuit television (CCTV) footage that might lead to the identification of the burglars.
