Toledo escapee surrenders

ONE of the three inmates who escaped from the Toledo City Police Station detention cell last Saturday surrendered to police yesterday.

Apolinario Canumay, 25, of Biga, Toledo City, was convinced by his mother informed police of his son’s whereabouts and convinced him to surrender peacefully to police.

SPO1 Ahmed Barquin of the Toledo City Police Station said he called Canumay’s mother and asked her to help her son surrender if he would go home.

Canumay of barangay Biga, Toledo, gave himself up when Barquin fetched him at his house.

Barquin later told police that he had no intention to escape but when he noticed that he was the only one left at the cell he slipped out through the hole at the back window.

He said he also missed his family.

Canumay is facing frustrated murder case. He’s accused of hacking a pregnant woman.

Canumay was one of the three inmates who escaped from jail last Saturday evening by cutting the iron bars using a hack saw above the cell’s comfort room in barangay Poblacion.

Aside from Canumay, the two other escapees were Nilo Lombreno, who is facing rape case, and Joselito Rebaya, who is facing  illegal possession of firearms charges.
