When Rye Ramos was only 8-months-old, she was diagnosed with langerhans cell histiocytosis, a disorder that affects the lungs and liver.
Now 3-years-old, Rye is undergoing 32 cycles of chemotherapy sessions at the Philippine General Hospital.
Rye’s father, Ruben, said that despite his daughter’s fear of injections, they have to bring her to the doctor for her weekly checkups .
Rye’s doctor said the child needs blood transfusions because her platelet count had gone down to a dangerously low level in the past days.
Ruben said, however, that doctors might change the protocol of his daughter’s chemotherapy session, now only on its 14th cycle, to low or high depending on Rye’s response to the present dosage.
The change in protocol would also be more expensive than the present cost of P107,000 per cycle.
