MANILA, Philippines—Two alleged robbers were killed in what police said was a shootout in Cainta, Rizal, early Friday.
The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. near the gate of Youngstown Subdivision in Barangay San Juan, Cainta, Rizal, Senior Superintendent Manuel Prieto, Rizal police chief, said over the phone.
He said a few minutes before the encounter, Rizal police operatives had been monitoring two men on a black motorcycle without plates.
This prompted intelligence operatives of the Rizal police to request a dragnet operation from the westbound lane of Ortigas Extension up to Cainta Junction, Prieto said.
“The suspects immediately opened fire when members of the Cainta police intercepted them. This resulted in an armed confrontation with the police,” Prieto said.
The alleged robbers died of gunshot wounds in the head and different parts of their bodies, which were taken to the Antipolo Memorial Homes for autopsy and possible identification by claimants.
