THE Westport Malaysia Dragons will be gunning for vengeance against the San Miguel Beermen as the two teams collide again on the latter’s home floor in the Asean Basketball League today at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Dragons were vanquished by the Beermen last February 13, 73-77, at the Nimbutr Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. But Malaysia is itching to repay its opponents back, especially with the Beermen severely depleted for manpower.
San Miguel will have their backs against the wall after the suspension of Gabe Freeman for unsportsmanlike conduct in their last game. Making matters worse, frontcourt enforcer Eric Menk is expected to be sidelined for a month after breaking his nose also in their last game. The Beermen are currently in second place with their 4-3 (win-loss) card while the Dragons are in hot pursuit at 4-4.
San Miguel will still have point guard Chris Banchero, who exploded for 26 points against Malaysia, replacement import Matt Rogers, Asi Taulava, and reigning league MVP Leo Avenido. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
