Vice mayor’s daughter shoots self

LAGUNA—A daughter of the vice mayor of Pangil, Laguna, is believed to have shot herself inside a school owned by her family on Thursday, authorities said Friday.

Senior Insp. Edmund Capistrano, Pangil police chief, said by phone that Joanne Dioces Reyes, 25, the daughter of the town’s vice mayor, Jovit Reyes, shot herself in the chest with a .22-cal. gun at around 5 p.m.

Reyes was last seen crying before she locked herself up inside her room in the house that is inside the family-owned Laguna Maritime Arts and Business College campus on Thursday, said Capistrano, quoting school employees. Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
