Typhoid in Badian now under control

THE SPREAD typhoid cases in Badian town in southwest Cebu is ‘under control’.

Acting Cebu Gov. Agnes Magpale gave this assurance yesterday after the Badian District Hospital reported five cases from barangay Cabangcang.

Magpale said there were no other cases and the patients had been given medicine.

She also said that the town’s water reservoir needs cleaning before a chlorinator would be used.

Badian Mayor Robburt Librando confirmed that now new typhoid cases were admitted at the district hospital.

He said the Abejo Water Corp. offered to help the town in cleaning the water source. The firm’s representatives took water samples to identify the specific bacteria that caused the typhoid fever cases.

Abejo Water Corps. just launched its P35-million water system development project in the town during a groundbreaking ceremony last February 18.

Abejo Water will supply about 1,500 cubic meters of water to about 2,500 households of Badian, with rates that vary depending on water consumption.

The company will install a water treatment plant, which they will buy from Singapore, to ensure that Badian consumers will have clean and potable water.

Librando told CDN that work for the pipe-laying begun last week from Basak to barangay Poblacion, covering 7.8 kilometers.

Librando said they look forward to having a “reliable” new water system after their existing water system did not guarantee potable water.

Five cases of diarrhea hit the town this week.
