THE BALILI property has no holes in the ground which are environmentally hazardous.
This was the observation of Provincial Board committee who visited the barangay Tinaan, Naga City property yesterday.
PB Member Thadeo Ouano, who heads the committee, said no holes were found especially in the proposed coal ash dumping site inside the property.
Ouano was accompanied during yesterday’s inspection by a geodetic engineer of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (Penro) Roy Cabunilas.
The visit was made after PB Member Arleigh Sitoy informed the PB two sessions ago of a hole in the property which was considered “environmentally hazardous.”
Ouano found a hole in the portion of the seawall which was blocked by piles of rocks.
Ouano, however, said the hole was a waterway where seawater would get in and out.
Ouano, who said that his family owns a fishpond in Mandaue City, that the waterway was used to supply seawater for the fishponds. The Balili property was once used as a fishpond.
And since dumping of coal ash has not begun, there is also “no hazard” to it since no chemicals are there, Ouano said./Correspondent Carmel L. Matus
