3 Grade 7 pupils drown in river

ILOILO—Three students drowned on Monday when they went swimming in Jalaur River in Dingle, Iloilo, authorities said.

Police identified the fatalities as Glaiza May Biaco, Karen Jane Cabucos and Donna Amor Provido, all aged 13 and Grade 7 students of Mater Carmeli School in Dingle.

Although Monday was declared a school holiday for the commemoration of Edsa People Power, the victims and six other students went to the school for a rehearsal.

Biaco, Cabucos, Provido and two other students then went swimming in Jalaur River in the afternoon, according to PO2 Leo Anerdis of the Dingle police. Karen Bermejo, Inquirer Visayas
