SCH ends Mariquit Aqua’s 3-game run in UBCA hoop

THE San Carlos Heights (SCH) stopped three-game winning run of Mariquit Aqua Venture, 91-85 last Sunday for its third win in five games and tied the latter at 3-2, win-loss in the 2nd Season Upper Bayanihan Catholic Association (UBCA) Camp-2013 basketball tournament.

Mariquit Venture led by single-digit in the first two periods but SCH responded with a 29-16 rally in the third including 10 points from skipper Yoly Meso to erect a, 72-66 lead going to the final quarter.

Jun Sumargo and Barak Ecojedo led SCH with 18 and 16 points, respectively while Yoly Meso and Dave Dela Cruz combined for 24 points. Dong Gabonia and Glen Tuburan paced Mariquit Venture with 16 and 15 markers.

Earlier, Quiot nipped Grace Bostolits, 101-100, for its 2nd win in six games, while the latter dropped to 1-4.

The game was close all throughout until Bostolit’s Michael Malalay canned a lay-up in the final nine seconds that tied the count at 100-all. In the return play, Arnel Abellanosa was fouled by Jeff Francisco then converted one of his two freethrows for Quiot’s hairline win.

Arnel Abellanosa and Belo Allera led Quiot with 26 and 16 points, respectively, while Michael Malalay and Toly Petiluna paced Bostolits with 24 and 21, respectively.
