Defending champion Cebu Country Club opens title bid today

The Cebu Country Club aims to make it two-in-a-row when it defends its title and its home turf in the Men’s Regular championship of the 66th Philippine Airlines Interclub golf tournament, which tees off today at the Mactan Island Golf Club.

History was made last year in Davao City by the golfers of CCC after they won their very first title in the Championship division.

A repeat performance remains the target for CCC as general manager Jeric Hechanova named his players for the first round in an interview yesterday morning. These are Lloyd Jefferson Go, Carl Almario, Mark Dy, Jovi Neri and Bayani Garcia.

According to Hechanova, the team is hoping that the combined experience of the first team will be enough to net them a lead before going to back to their home green at the CCC in Banilad for the second round tomorrow.

The rest of the squad is comprised of Eric Deen, Marko Sarmiento, Gen Nagai, Ramontito Garcia and the comebacking Andre Borromeo, who will be replacing Gio Gandionco.

“As you can see, we opted to put in our veterans during the first day in the hopes of gaining a lead as early in the first round,” said Hechanova. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
