Schools defying DepEd on graduation fee ban

Some public schools are still collecting graduation fees despite an express order from Education Secretary Armin Luistro not to do so.

Since its activation last month, the Department of Education’s (DepEd) DeTXT Action Center has received 180 complaints on the collection of graduation fees.

Most of the schools complained about were in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Calabarzon, the center’s officer in charge, Demetria Manuel, said.

The callers told of being asked to pay graduation fees of P150 up to P600.

Luistro recently reiterated his order to all 45,000 public schools to hold “spartan” graduation rites.
