Psc’s garcia inaugurates cebu’s new public beach volley court
THE NEW beach volleyball court beside the famed Fort San Pedro in Plaza Independencia was inaugurated yesterday headed by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Ricardo Garcia, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Edward Hayco.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was headed by Hayco, Rama and Garcia while the blessing was officiated by Fr. Jake Reyes.
“It was two years ago when Chairman Garcia proposed to develop a public sand court here in Cebu. At first, it was like shooting for a star but when Mayor Rama unexpectedly signed the memorandum I passed to him, I was very glad that the far-fetched plan is now coming to works,” said Hayco.
The executive director of the Parks and Playgrounds Commission, Dr. Librado Macaraya Jr., and generous individuals such as Win Construction’s Engr. Winston Limquaico, Cebu Volleyball Association’s Andrew Choachuy and other private sponsors were responsible for the construction of the sandcourt.
This is the first public sand court for beach volleyball here in Cebu since the court in Southwestern University (SWU) is considered private./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
