ERCO FC completed the semifinals cast of the Men’s Open after posting a 4-0 routing of the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) in the 15th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Mandaue and Cebu City Sports Center.
ERCO snatched the top spot from Atletico Cebu with a win yesterday by posting a total of 12 points equivalent to four wins in the elimination round.
If ERCO had lost against CAFC, Atletico Cebu would have been the one to advance to the final four as both teams would have held the same score of nine points. But Atletico would take the top spot by virtue of its goal difference.
ERCO now joins Crazy Horse, which dominated bracket B with 10 points; Cebu Queen City United FC, which ruled bracket C by winning all of its four matches and Hiroshi FC, which topped bracket D, in the final four.
Other Men’s Open matches, which had no bearing but were still played yesterday, saw Samba FC scoring a 5-0 routing of Camellanz, DB Magone outsmarting Apas Mizkits, 2-0, Indiana streaking past DB Razkals, 4-0, and University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) earning a 2-0 win when San Roque Football Club failed to show up for their match.
In the Men’s Under 23, Philsca posted its second win with a 1-0 edging of University of San Carlos (USC) while the match between University of Cebu and University of Southern Philippines Foundation ended in a 2-all draw.
The remaining Boys 12 match saw Don Bosco-1 earning a semifinals entry after posting a 6-0 routing of SJS-M. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
