Ex-councilman’s killers down

POLICE said they have already identified the two men who fatally shot a former councilman in barangay Luray 2, Toledo City, southwest Cebu.

Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said police are withholding the names of the assailants who are being pursued by authorities.

Comendador said investigators are not discounting the possibility that the killing was politically-related since the victim Orencio Embralinag, 42, was a staunch supporter of former senator Sonny Osmeña, who is a mayoralty aspirant in the city.

The victim was a former councilman in barangay Capitan Claudio. He was driving a motorcycle in sitio Sipaway when he was waylaid Friday morning.

Comendador said investigators are checking if the killing had something to do with the victim’s role in organizing a labor union at Carmen Copper in barangay Lutopan, Toledo.

There have been previous attempts on Embralinag’s life but the slay plot was aborted when the persons who planned to kill him were arrested, Comendador said./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
