TAGUM CITY, Philippines—A miner was killed and five others were injured following a landslide that hit the mining village of Mt. Diwalwal in Monkayo, Compostela Valley, police said Saturday.

The rain-triggered avalanche that buried a house and a gold processing plant occurred at Purok (community) 4, Sitio (Sub-village) Limestone around 9 p.m. on Wednesday according to Superintendent Cydric Earl Tamayo, Monkayo police station chief.

Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, Compostela Valley police chief, said report about the incident did not immediately reach police due to the inaccessibility of the area and disruption of cellphone signals there.

Cirilo Seguerra, 25, a transient resident of the area was killed after being buried under rocks and other debris that covered the house he and several others were staying, Tamayo told the Inquirer in a text message.

Tamayo identified those injured as Roseric Mercado, 36, the houseowner; his relatives Ronald, 27, and Benjie, 26, also surnamed Mercado; Rodel Sacon, 25, single; and Jerico Humilid, 24, also single.
