JP Steelwood and Café Laguna ended their campaigns in the elimination round on a high note as they beat their respective opponents last weekend to emerge as the top teams in Division 1 of the University of San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (USCBHABA) at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
The league-leading JP Steelwood downed Einstein School, 75-71, to finish atop the standings with a 9-1 (win-loss) record. Bing Pua led the way with 19 points while Dean Wong and ex-pro Lou Regidor added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
On the other hand, Café Laguna outlasted B95, 49-41, to end up with a 7-3 card, good for second place. Dindo Sauza paced the winners with 22 points.
JP Steelwood and Café Laguna earned for themselves a bye in the quarterfinal round as they await the winners of the games between RMI Cockpit (5-5) and Coach (2-8) and B95 (5-5) against Einstein (4-6). /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
