Police collar rape suspect in Lapu

Police arrested a 54-year-old trisikad driver who allegedly raped a 19-year-old high school student in Lapu-Lapu City.

Dioscoro Igoy was tending to his store when he was arrested in barangay Mactan on Thursday morning.

The man is facing nine counts of rape.

Police said his co-accused in the case was arrested in December last year.

Igoy was arrested based on a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Anna Marie Militante of Branch 53 in Lapu-Lapu City.

The alleged crime happened in October last year, according to the girl.

Police said Igoy denied raping the victim, saying what happened was consensual.

The victim said the two suspects threatened to kill her and her parents if she will report to the police.

The victim finally reported the alleged abuse to her mother last December that led to the arrest of the other suspect.

The victim said the two suspects forced her to ride in a trisikad at knife-point and brought her to a secluded area where she was raped.

The victim’s parents told police that because of the incident, the girl decided to stop going to school./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
