All set for SM2SM Run this Sunday
SOME 4,000 runners are expected to see action in this Sunday’s SM2SM Run starting at SM City Cebu.
As of yesterday, the number of registered runners have reached 3,500 in the four-category race organized by the SM Prime Holdings Inc. for the benefit of the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children and the Cebu Newspaper Workers Foundation (CENEWOF).
RJ Leduna, SM Supermall’s Public Relations Manager for Visayas-Mindanao happily announced the massive number of registrants for this Sunday’s race.
The run will not only be a battle for supremacy between the Kenyans and Cebuano elite runners in the centerpiece 21K category, but also a show of post-Valentine love in the 12K Radisson Blu Hotel Couples Run.
Some 800 runners have registered in the 12K and 1,200 for the 21K half marathon. The rest will come from the shorter 3K and 6K distances. Timing chips will be provided to the 21K and 12K runners.
The run will pass through the South Road Properties going to the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod and to SM Seaside City Cebu, the newest project of SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and will extend to Talisay City. Organizers will also place a Chocolate and Banana Station in the race route, aside from the usual water stations.
Race starts at 5 a.m. for 21K runners, 5:15 for 12K and 5:30 for 3K and 6K racers. A fireworks display by Pyroworks International will signal the start of the run. Prizes include P50,000, P30,000, and P20,000 for the top three placers in the 21K Male and Female category. The 4th to 10th placers will receive P1,000 SM Gift Certificates.
Top placers in the 12K Male and Female category will bring home P10,000 each, while the second and third placers will receive P7,000 and P5,000 respectively. The fourth to tenth placers will get P1,000 worth of SM Gift Certificates. All 21K and 12K finishers will receive an SM2SM finisher’s medal by Suarez & Sons.
Cash prizes and SM Gift Certificates are also up for grabs to the winners of the 6K category while winners in the Couples Category will win Overnight stay for two and a lunch or dinner buffet in Radisson Blu Hotel plus SM Gift Certificates. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
