Lack of interpreter forces postponement of massacre trial

MANILA, Philippines—The Maguindanao massacre trial was postponed for a second straight day Thursday due to the absence of a Maguindanao interpreter.

Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes reset the hearing for Wednesday next week after interpreter Rolando Abu failed to show up for Thursday’s hearing.

The court was supposed to arraign five accused in the case and continue with the cross examination of a state witness but these required the presence of a Maguindanao interpreter.

The hearing on Wednesday was also cancelled because Abu, who is reportedly sick, was not able to attend the hearing.

The prosecution has recommended three new Maguindanao interpreters to replace him.
