IT’S still more than a month away but this early, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office warned local candidates not to campaign on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Comelec provincial officer Ferdinand Guijilde yesterday issued this reminder to reporters since Good Friday falls on March 29, the official start of the campaign period. Maundy Thursday is scheduled a day before.
Comelec Resolution 9615 prohibits either voter or candidate from campaigning on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, eve of election day on May 12 and on election day, May 13.
Acting Gov. Agnes Magpale, who is running for re-election as vice governor, said the Liberal Party (LP) moved their campaign sorties to March 30.
Guijilde also reminded local media practitioners to register in order to secure absentee voting privileges.
They will be asked to fill up a form and secure a certification from their media outlet that they will be covering the elections away from their polling precincts on election day.
The media absentee voting will be on April 28, 29 and 30. Guijilde said only manual voting will be allowed on those days. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
