Parents laud new day care centers

Parents expressed gratitude for the two new day care centers and playgrounds that were turned over to barangays Catarman and San Vicente in Liloan town, northern Cebu last Jan. 16.

The school buildings were jointly constructed by the Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (DACF), Vereniging Haarlemmermeer-Cebu, RAFI’s Kool Adventure Camp alumni from Lilo-an National High School, Liloan municipal government and the two recipient barangays.

Fe Tagalog, mother of a four-year-old day care pupil from Catarman, recalled how it was like for the children before they transferred to the new day care center.

Tagalog said classes were used to be held in a chapel, where there’s no comfort room and water. The children had  to go outside the chapel to urinate, or sometimes they just had to wait until they got home. The space also was too small for their classroom activities.

Parents observed that the children are now inclined to go to school.

The new school buildings are more spacious with wall paint colors and facilities that are attractive to the children.

Corby Satirtigan, a day care pupil  from San Vicente, said they played at their new playground during break time.

“We are privileged to have this facility. We will take good care of this facility so this can also be used by the future batches of daycare pupils,” Tagalog said.

The new day care centers and playgrounds conform to the Department of Social Welfare and Development standards, which include using colors and designs that stimulate learning in children.

Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco said he hoped that prioritizing early childhood care and development would help address high failure rate among grade one pupils in Liloan.
