3.1 quake jolts Laguna, Batangas

MANILA, Philippines—A 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Laguna and Batangas at 2:43 p.m. Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The inland quake struck one kilometer northwest of Rizal at a shallow depth of 13 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.

It was felt at intensity II in Los Baños and San Pablo in the province of Laguna and in Lipa City and Sto. Tomas in Batangas province.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
