MANILA, Philippines – A man, who took hostage his girlfriend who recently broke up with him, died after being shot by responding policemen.
Police said they were forced to shoot Alexander Godofredo, around 28 years old, when he stabbed the victim Alicia Nulla, 40.
Around 3:30 p.m., police led by Inspector Bernardo Mendoza responded to a hostage-taking incident in a house in United Paranaque Subdivision 5, San Isidro village, where Nulla works as laundrywoman.
Parañaque police chief Superintendent Billy Beltran said Godofredo, who witnesses said was apparently drunk, came to the house and had an argument with Nulla over their recent break-up. With a knife, Godofredo held her and took her hostage. He also shouted at people around, saying: “May shooting, may shooting (There’s a shooting).”
Special Weapons and Tactics unit of Parañaque Police was dispatched to the area, and was forced to shoot Godofredo when he started stabbing Nulla. Godofredo died from gunshot wounds to the head and shoulders upon arrival in hospital.
Beltran said police tried their best to stop Godofredo but he was already “out of reason.”
Nulla, who suffered from four stab wounds in the leg and a stab wound near the chest, was rushed to Olivarez hospital and is now in stable condition. Jodie Agoncillo
