San Miguel Beer fails to log back-to-back wins, loses to Malaysia Dragons in ABL hoop

The roller coaster of a season for the San Miguel Beermen continued after they lost to the Westport Malaysia Dragons, 76-82, in the Asean Basketball League yesterday at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Ironically, it was a Filipino and a former PBA import that dealt the most damage for the Beermen as Gilas Cadet team member Justin Melton and Sammy Monroe connived to deal San Miguel its third loss in six games.

Monroe had 32 points, seven rebounds and eight steals in what was a rousing debut for the former Barako Bull import, who flew in to replace the injured Cedric Bozeman.

Melton, on the other hand, had 19 points, just days after getting signed by the Dragons.

Gavin Edwards, the team’s other import, added 13 while Cebuano gunner and former University of the Visayas Baby Lancer Patrick Cabahug had 10.

Gabe Freeman paced the Beermen with 22 points and 14 rebounds while Chris Banchero added 14 markers.
