BROKEN-HEARTED KILLS SELF

A CELEBRATION of love ended in tragedy when a construction worker allegedly committed suicide on Valentine’s Day in barangay Luka, Oslob town, southern Cebu.

Love problem may have drove Rene Cabugnason Balasabas to kill himself.

Police said Balasabas was found by his aunt on Thursday suspended from the ceiling of his room with a nylon rope tied around his neck.

Police said the victim, a native of Mabinay, Negros Oriental, had been depressed in the past few weeks after he and his girlfriend broke up.

SPO1 Narciso Ysao of Oslob police said there were no signs of foul play.

In barangay Napo, Carcar town, southern Cebu, a 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself after she was scolded by her mother on Wednesday night.

Police said the girl was found with a curtain looped around her neck and the other end tied to the beam of her room.

The mother told police that she asked her daughter to cook rice for dinner. The girl declined and reasoned out that she was still finishing a school project.

The mother got irked and allegedly slapped the girl’s mouth, police said.

A few hours later, the mother said they were about to sleep when she found her daughter hanging by the neck.

WOMAN DIES IN BOGO ROAD MISHAP

AN old woman died after she was hit by a speeding motorcycle in barangay Garian, Bogo City, northern Cebu.

The victim was not immediately identified, police said.

Police said the woman was crossing the road Thursday afternoon when she was hit by a motorcycle driven by Benjamin Dignos, 57.

Dignos drove the woman to the Bogo Provincial Hospital where the victim died a few minutes later.

Police said no one from the area was able to recognize the woman.

The victim was described to be between 60 and 70 years old.

The woman wore a blue blouse and a skirt, police said.
