Donayre eyes crucial win versus Buminaag in URCC

YAW-Yan ArDigma Cebu and Deftac fighter Vaughn “Spawn” Donayre tries to keep his unblemished record alive when he fights Manila’s Robert Buminaang in the undercard of the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) “Unleashed” on March 2 at the Baguio Convention Center in Baguio City.

Donayre is gunning for his fifth straight victory that will also strengthen his bid for a title shot. He will fight in the lightweight division.

If the 30-year-old Cebuano Jiu-jitsu expert wins on March 2, URCC CEO Alvin Aguilar may give him a title shot in the lightweight division. The lightweight title was vacated by One FC champion Honorio Banario after he became the first Filipino champion of the said international MMA promotions following a victory over former URCC champion Eric Kelly in the main event of “One FC VII: Return of Warriors” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently.

“My plan is just to keep fighting and winning and maybe this will open up a chance for me to be a contender for the title,” siad Donayre.

Donayre’s impressive submission victory last Jan. 19 during the URCC Cebu-Survival against Mindanao’s Allan Atup gave him a spot in the undercard of the URCC Baguio card.

Buminaang’s three-year absence in the ring gives Donayre a huge advantage. Donayre said he is in his best shape and is focusing on improving his striking techniques by having sparring sessions with Yaw-Yan ArDigma fighters. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
