The National Household Targeting Unit of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) is urging the local government units (LGUs) in the region to submit names of families affected by typhoon “Pablo” for special validation.

To recall, Pablo wreaked havoc in the Visayas and Mindanao.

In the Central Visayas, DSWD’s Protective Services Bureau revealed a total of 18,811 families were affected by the typhoon last December.

DSWD chooses to fast-track the special validation by March to determine the present conditions of the poor or non-poor households in the typhoon-affected areas.

The newly assessed households will go through proxy means test, a statistical formula that estimates the income of households based on the proxy variables included in the household assessment form.

“To fast-track the identification process, the city and municipal social welfare and development officers all over the Central Visayas should submit the names of the affected families,” said the newly-installed DSWD-7 Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat.

Jabagat added that the validated result will serve as inputs in the formulation of DSWD’s social protection intervention programs for the affected households.

The DSWD is expected to hire 108 field staff during the month-long validation process that will include 78 enumerators, 13 area supervisors, two area coordinators and 15 encoders.

An intensive training will be given to the hired applicants before they will be deployed to their designated areas.
