Veco holds V-Day date contest for a cause

Today, Valentine’s Day, you can gift your special someone with a bouquet of flowers and chocolates and then treat them to a fancy dinner or for Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) employees infect them with the “love bug” to raise money for a charitable institution.

They called the in-house fund-raising activity “Make a Pledge Win a Date.”

“The fund raising project will be done by singles bidding for another single partner that they will want to date and will be assisted by married employees who will act as ’cupids’ and will place bids on the pair they will want to win,” said Veco communications manager Theresa Sederiosa.

The money raised from the activity will be given to the Missionaries of Charity in barangay Pasil, Cebu City.

“We have 26 nominated pairs so far and the total pledge from the bidders already reached P33,000. This is the first time that we have done this and we are proud that our employees found another good way to celebrate Valentines Day which is not only for couples but for everyone with a heart to love,” Sederiosa said.

Meanwhile, flower shops in Cebu City reports a pick up in the sales of flowers with the Ecuadorian Roses or what florists called the “Cabbage Rose” being the favorite rose for this day because of its bigger blooms.

Eleanor Bernal of Sweet Lilies Flower and Shop, said Ecuadorian roses, which comes in colors of red, pink, white and blue had the most orders for the day.

“Cebuanos never come cheap when it comes to giving their loved ones special flowers on Valentine’s Day,” said Bernal.

Her bouquets are sold from P800 to as much as P6,000 which they deliver to the specific addresses that their customers indicate at their most preferred time of delivery.

Flores de Cielito owner Guadalupe Agua agree. Agua and her employees were busy preparing flowers yesterday to be delivered today.

Achilles Cabahug of Buds and Blossoms Flower Shop also said that they always received large orders of roses during Valentines Day because flowers were best associated with “love.”

Dining

Different restaurants in Cebu are also busy coming up with dinner packages for couples and families who would want to treat their loved ones to a romantic dinner in that one special day of the year dedicated for matters of the heart.

Marco Polo Plaza Hotel decided on a retro theme this year for Valentine’s Day, which will take you back in the early 80s time dubbed as “Let’s talk love on Valentines Day.”

According to Marco Polo Plaza Hotel press relations and media communications manager Kyra Cabaero, they would be expecting 450 people to dine with them tonight for their Valentines Day special.

Cost for a dinner at Cafe Marco range from P1,650 to P2,750 per person.

C2 Classic Cuisine at the fourth floor of Summit Circle Hotel will also offer P699 net per person dinner package for about 150 people that will dine with them at the restaurant.

“We will offer that from today up to the 16th because we noticed that Cebuanos don’t just have dates as couples but as a huge family as well,” said C2 Classic Cuisine sales and marketing manager Jaybee Flores-Aquino.

Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort and Spa in Mactan is offering dinner plus room packages to their customers this Valentines Day.

The resort’s packages range from P1,700 to P17,000, said press relations manager Angela Emphasis.

For those who want to treat their loved ones to a dinner with a breath-taking view of the city at night, Pages Holdings, Inc. president Bunny Pages said Lantaw sa Busay was already open.
