Carabuena escapes arrest

The motorist accused of assaulting a traffic constable of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority escaped arrest when he posted bail anew yesterday morning.

Robert Blair Carabuena went to the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 42 to post bail of P24,000 for his provisional liberty, exactly a week after he failed to show up for his own arraignment, prompting the court to order the forfeiture of his previous bail of P12,000 and subsequently, his arrest.

“He paid P24,000 for his bail because the judge doubled the amount originally set,” court clerk Raymond Blanco told the Inquirer, adding that Carabuena’s presence during the hearings was one of the conditions set by the court when it allowed him to post bail.

Carabuena, who faces the charge of direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority, is accused of attacking traffic constable Saturnino Fabros over a minor traffic dispute in August.

The incident went viral after it was posted on the Web and earned Carabuena a sound drubbing from netizens. Jeannette I. Andrade
