MANILA, Philippines—After resigning from his post on Wednesday, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri announced he would run again in 2013 senatorial race.
“Ako ay babalik muna, tatakbo uli sa (I will return, run again in) 2013 elections. I will seek a fresh mandate from the people,” Zubiri told reporters after he announced his resignation on the floor.
“Gusto ko ng panalo sana na walang bahid. Walang katanungan. Paghihirapan ko po iyon (I would like a victory without any taint, without a question. I will work hard for it),” he said. “I have two years to go around the country.”
This was the reason why Zubiri said he resigned from his post because there were people who have been questioning his victory in the 2007 elections.
Zubiri said his decision to resign was “liberating” not only because he would be with his family but also because he would be able to leave behind the allegation of fraud.
“I can look forward, move forward to a better opportunity,” he said.
