Watchmen stop baby’s abduction

Three barangay tanod (village watchmen) foiled an alleged attempt by a man to abduct a 9-month-old baby boy in Navotas City Monday night.

Jomar Alfaro, 37, a pedicab driver and resident of Barangay Niugan in neighboring Malabon City, was arrested after taking the youngest child of Rodolfo Alvarico from the latter’s house in Barangay North Bay Boulevard-South in Navotas.

The Navotas police said Alvarico, 61, was sleeping next to the infant at his house at the corner of Lapu-Lapu and Maliputo Streets when the suspect broke in and took the boy around 10:30 p.m.

Alvarico woke up and discovered that his son was no longer by his side. Neighbors then told him that they saw a man leaving his house on a pedicab and carrying the baby.

The neighbors then reported the incident to three North Bay watchmen—Fe Beldas, Jimmy Oloroso and Antonio Cadelario— who also spotted Alfaro on the pedicab with the baby and gave chase.
