Truck driver killed

A truck driver was killed after he lost control of his vehicle on a slippery road and smashed into another truck before dawn Tuesday in Quezon City. Jorge de la Cruz, 28, died on the spot following the accident on C.P. Garcia Avenue corner Maginhawa Street at 4:15 a.m. Traffic investigator PO3 Renato Sunga said De la Cruz, a native of Nueva Ecija, was crushed in the driver’s seat after his Isuzu truck hit a trailer truck being driven by Armando Macapagal, 46. His two helpers, Arfie Yabut, 18, and JR Enriquez, 18, suffered injuries. The traffic prober said that it was raining at the time the victim was driving his truck on C.P. Garcia Avenue which may have made the road slippery, thus leading to the accident. The victim’s truck ended up crossing into the opposite lane and smashing into the left side of Macapagal’s trailer truck. The police said De la Cruz’s truck might have plowed through a row of houses beside the road if his vehicle had not crashed into Macapagal’s truck. Due to the strong impact, however, De la Cruz was crushed in the driver’s seat and died of severe injuries. Julie M. Aurelio
