Superintendent Laudemer Llaneta, Tiaong police chief, said at around 1 p.m. in Barangay Lagalag, an Isuzu aluminum closed van driven by one Carlito Papiona rammed into the rear portion of a moving jeepney then veered into the opposite lane and hit the left side of an oncoming tricycle.
The van then slammed head-on into a Toyota Corolla, driven by Senior Police Officer 2 Isagani Tibayan assigned at the Dasmariñas City police station, the police said.
A report said Tibayan was declared dead on arrival in a hospital in nearby Candelaria town.
Police said Tibayan’s companion, SP02 Rudy Miguel, also suffered injuries and was rushed to United Candelaria Doctors Hospital for treatment.
The four passengers of the tricycle, including two young children, sustained injuries and were rushed by passing motorists to the nearest hospital for treatment, Llaneta said.
Investigators have yet to confirm if faulty brakes on the van had triggered the collisions. Papiona, meanwhile, was detained at the Tiaong police jail.
