Man accused of killing daughter-in-law yields to NBI
MANILA, Philippines—The sexagenarian suspected of stabbing dead his daughter-in-law in Manila last Sunday had surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Rodolfo Maceda, 62, surrendered late Tuesday afternoon and admitted killing Mary Jane Maceda, 37, the wife of his son and mother to two of his granchildren, the NBI told reporters on Wednesday.
The Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide Section earlier reported that Maceda, apparently drunk on Sunday night, had an argument with Mary Jane at their house on Oro B. St., Sta. Ana before strangling and stabbing her on her right shoulder in front of her children.
Maceda claimed he acted out of anger because Mary Jane neglected his grandchildren while his son was abroad.
“Lagi kasing sinasaktan [ni Mary Jane] ’yung anak niya kaya sa tuwing ginagawa niya ’yun ay nagagalit ako” (“She always hurts the children, which makes me mad”), Maceda admitted to reporters.
Maceda had fled after the killing and has been the subject of a police manhunt until he gave himself up at the NBI headquarters on Tuesday, NBI Security Management Division (NBI-SMD) chief Head Agent Mario Garcia said.
